A Heart and Soul of Change Project

Two messages from funders are clear: If you want reimbursement for services, you'd better use evidence based practices (EBP). As much as implementing EBPs is a worthwhile endeavor, the reality on the ground is that the feasibility of training staff in EBPs to cover even a minimal number of diagnoses is difficult at best. And, if you want future funding, you'd better demonstrate your agency's outcomes—i.e., “return on investment (ROI)†and “proof of value (POV).†Here again, measuring outcomes on the front lines often fails the feasibility test. This workshop will show you how to address these challenges and make your agency evidence based—tomorrow—while proving the value of your services and improving outcomes.
- PCOMS is a SAMHSA Evidence Based Practice
- Not diagnosis based so One Size Can Fit All
- Cost effective compared to implementation of other EBPs
- You can make your agency evidence based right away
- Not limited to a single therapeutic model
- Increases therapist productivity, improves efficiency, and eliminates waiting lists
- Demonstrates to funders that your services are effective and worth funding
- Meets most if not all managed care requirements
You will learn that you don't need a separate EBP for every diagnosis—one size does fit all, at least when it comes to the Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS). PCOMS is included in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). PCOMS enhances any treatment, including EBPs, by incorporating the most robust predictors of therapeutic success into an outcome management system that partners with clients while honoring the daily pressures of front-line clinicians. Because it is not diagnosis directed, PCOMS allows your agency to be evidence based across programs and clients while providing a way to not only report your outcomes, but also improve them. PCOMS identifies at risk clients before they drop out or realize a negative outcome, while simultaneously raising the bar of everyone's performance.
Following the morning overview, afternoon breakout sessions will allow you to both learn the nuts and bolts of PCOMS and how to tailor it to your agency's population and focus, including mental health, substance abuse, and youth and family settings. And we are excited and pleased to offer a breakout session in Spanish.
